How age is worked out

Your division is set by how old you are on Friday 30 October 2026 — the first day of the competition. If you have a birthday during the comp, you stay in the division you started in.

Pick yours

The five divisions

Open, Junior and Young Gun are the age divisions — you're in one of those three. Team and Club run alongside, so you can be in one of those as well.

Age division

Open

18 and over

The main division. Your longest snapper decides your placing, and every Open entry goes into the Lucky Prize Draw.

  • Longest snapper wins
  • Top 10 placings
  • In the Lucky Prize Draw automatically
Age division

Junior

12 and under

For the young ones. Same comp, same bays, judged against other juniors rather than the adults.

  • Aged 12 or under on 30 October 2026
  • Longest snapper wins the division
  • Own trophy and prize pack
New for 2026

Young Gun

13 to 17

New this year. Old enough to be fishing seriously, too young to be up against the Open field — so now there's a division for it.

  • Aged 13 to 17 on 30 October 2026
  • Longest snapper wins the division
  • Own trophy and prize pack

We may ask for photo ID at presentation day to confirm age.

Team Challenge

2 to 5 anglers

Fish with your mates as a team as well as for yourself. You're still in for every individual prize.

  • Your team's 4 longest snapper added together
  • Those four can come from any team member
  • You'll name your team when you enter
  • Teams lock once the comp starts

There are extra rules for the Team Challenge, and you have to read them before you can enter.

Club Challenge

Fish for your club

Open, Junior and Young Gun entrants can nominate their fishing club when they enter. Every eligible fish you catch adds to your club's total, and the best club takes the Club Challenge trophy.

  • Nominate your club at entry — nothing extra to do
  • Your fish count for you and your club
  • One club champion, no second or third
  • Find your club and read the rules — the full list goes up closer to the comp

Everything else — where you can fish, minimum length, how to submit a fish — is the same for every division. Read the main rules.

Know which one you're in?

Entries go through Ticketebo. One entry covers the full nine days. If you're joining the Team Challenge, read those rules first — they're different, and they matter.

Know someone who'd fish it?

Send them the divisions so they can work out which one they're in.
