Description

Midnight Ultra Rig – Pre-Tied Snapper Rig, 10 Pack

The Midnight is the same proven Ultra Rig as our Scallop, tied in a dark Midnight flasher with glowing lumo beads. Same strong paternoster, same Dominator lumo circle hooks, same 80lb leader – just a darker colour for when you want to change things up.

This pack gives you 10 pre-tied Midnight Ultra Rigs in the hook size of your choice, from 4/0 to 8/0, tied on 80lb.

What you get

  • 10 pre-tied Midnight paternoster rigs
  • Reedy’s Rigs Dominator lumo circle hooks – choose 4/0, 5/0, 6/0, 7/0 or 8/0
  • 80lb leader, strong enough for big snapper and gummy shark
  • Midnight flasher and lumo beads to bring fish in
  • Long tag at the bottom so you can set the rig to suit where you fish

Which hook size?

  • 4/0 and 5/0 – the go-to sizes for Port Phillip Bay and Western Port snapper on pilchard, squid and whiting heads.
  • 6/0 – a step up for bigger baits and bigger reds.
  • 7/0 and 8/0 – big baits, big snapper, gummy shark and offshore reef.

What you’ll catch on it

Built for snapper, and strong enough to land whatever else turns up – gummy shark, kingfish, mulloway, flathead, trevally, salmon and reef species.

How to rig it

  1. Tie it on. Take the rig out of the packet and tie the top of the rig to your main line.
  2. Set your hook height. The tag at the bottom is left long on purpose, because everyone fishes different ground. Cut it to length for how close you want your bottom hook to the bottom, then tie a loop in the end. On the mud in Port Phillip Bay, set the bottom hook about 100–200mm off the bottom. Over reef, leave it longer to keep your baits out of the snags.
  3. Add your sinker. Attach a sinker to the loop – the lightest sinker that still gets you to the bottom: light on a slack tide or in shallow water, heavier when the current’s running or you’re deep.

How to bait and fish it

Use a King George whiting head pinned through the lip, a pilchard chunk or a squid ring, pinned through just once so it dangles naturally and nothing gets twisted up. Drop it to the bottom, take up the slack and watch the rod tip. Don’t strike – the Dominator is a circle hook, so just wind steadily when a fish loads up the rod and it sets itself in the corner of the mouth.

Other Ultra Rig colours

Same rig, different colour: Supa Lumo · PinkBlitz 2.0 · Scallop. Plenty of fishos carry a few colours and swap until they find what the fish want on the day.
