🏕️ Family Fishing & Camping Trip – Inverloch Adventure
Inverloch, a picturesque coastal town in Victoria, offers the ideal family getaway. Our recent trip to the Inverloch Foreshore Camping Ground was unforgettable — a perfect mix of beach camping, boating, fishing, and quality time with the kids.
🚗 Arrival & Camp Setup
We packed up after school, hit the road towing our boat, and made it to Inverloch by 6:30 PM. Our pop-up tent setup with a Dune awning clipped on perfectly, providing a quick pitch and plenty of shelter. The ocean was just 80 metres away — we cooked up some wings and burgers, then kicked back by the fire roasting marshmallows until late.
🎣 Morning Fishing Session
We launched into Anderson Inlet by 7 AM targeting King George whiting, flathead, mullet, and salmon. A burley pot on the estuary floor fired up the bite — the kids had non-stop action on the rods.
🦐 Pumping Bass Yabbies
As the tide slowed, we beached on a nearby island and got the Wilson yabby pump into action. Bass yabbies are prime bait for whiting, bream, and flathead. We worked the holes during low tide and had a blast collecting live bait.
TIP: Always check tide times and avoid straying too far from your boat — the flood tide comes in fast!
🎯 Choosing the Right Gear for the Kids
We used light Shimano reels (2500 size) with short rods designed for small hands. Reedy’s Tinganoster pre-tied rigs made setup a breeze and kept baits near the bottom where the fish were biting.
- 🎣 Rod: 4–6 ft light power rods
- 🌀 Reel: Spinning or spincast with simple mechanics
- 🧵 Line: 4–8lb mono — tangle-free and forgiving
