Short version. There is no account and no sign-up. The app sends us an anonymous count of screens opened so we know it is being used, and nothing else. Your location is used only while you switch GPS on and it never leaves your phone. Your saved marks stay on your phone. Nothing we receive can identify you, and we sell nothing to anyone.
This policy explains how the Reedy’s Rigs Live Fishing Window app handles information. The Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) apply.
Reedy’s Rigs Tackle Pty Ltd (ABN 86 688 571 913). Contact: admin@reedysrigs.com.
There is no account, no sign-up and no login, and we hold no database of users. We cannot identify you from using the app.
The app does send a small anonymous count to our own server so we know how much it is being used. That is the only thing it sends us:
| What | Example | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Which page or screen loaded | live-fishing-window | Knowing which parts get used |
| Which event happened | opened, refreshed, sponsor tapped | Knowing what people do with it |
| App or browser | app | Knowing whether people install it |
| Broad device type | phone | Sizing the layout for the right screens |
| Referring page, if any | reedysrigs.com | Knowing how people found it |
| Time of the request | a timestamp | Counting by day |
There is no identifier of any kind in this — no account, no advertising ID, no device ID, no cookie, no name, no email. The counts cannot be linked back to a person or to each other. Your location, your marks and your routes are never included.
The app can use your device’s GPS. This is what happens with it:
| Point | What it means |
|---|---|
| Off unless you turn it on | GPS is off when the app opens. It runs only after you press the GPS button, and stops when you press it again, change tab, switch apps or close the app. |
| Used on your device only | Your position is used to draw your location on the map, to point the arrow the way you are travelling, and to place a mark where you are standing. |
| Never transmitted | Your location is not sent to us or to anyone else. It is not uploaded, logged, stored on a server, or shared. |
| Not kept | No history of where you have been is recorded. When GPS is switched off the position is discarded. |
You can withdraw the location permission at any time in your device settings. Every other part of the app keeps working without it.
Marks you save — the coordinates, the name and the icon you choose — are stored in your device’s local storage. They stay on that device. They are not synced, backed up by us, or visible to anyone else.
To delete them, use the delete button on any mark, or clear the app’s data in your device settings, which removes all of them at once. We cannot delete them for you because we do not have them.
The app requests live conditions from the services below. These are ordinary outbound requests containing no personal information. As with any internet request, the service receiving it can see the IP address it came from, which is a normal part of how the internet works and is outside our control.
| Service | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Bureau of Meteorology (via our own relay) | Live wind, direction and gusts from coastal stations | Australia |
| Open-Meteo | Air temperature, pressure, rain, forecast | Germany |
| Open-Meteo Marine | Sea surface temperature | Germany |
| WorldTides | Tide predictions | United States |
| CARTO, Esri | Map tiles, only when you open the GPS tab | United States, global |
| unpkg | The mapping library, fetched the first time you open the GPS tab | Global |
| GitHub Pages | Western Port tide tables | United States |
| reedysrigs.com | Our own server, for the anonymous counts in section 2 | Europe |
Under Australian Privacy Principle 8, we disclose that these services operate outside Australia. No personal information is included in the requests we make to them.
The app is a fishing conditions tool suitable for general audiences. It collects no information from anyone, including children.
The app shows conditions from public forecast and observation services. It is a guide, not a guarantee, and it is not a substitute for checking the official marine forecast before you go out. Decisions about whether to launch, where to fish and when to come home remain yours.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the app.
If you think we have mishandled information, email admin@reedysrigs.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
