Fishing in Port Fairy: A Premier Destination in Victoria. Port Fairy stands out as one of the most active fishing ports in Victoria. It’s an ideal spot for anglers aiming to catch Tuna, but the waters also abound with Kingfish, Mako Shark, Thresher Shark, School Shark, Bronze Whaler Sharks, Whiting, Flathead, Snapper, Salmon, and Mulloway. For this trip, we are specifically targeting Tuna using surface lures.

Tackling Tuna at Port Fairy: An Exciting Fishing Adventure

Accommodation Highlights

We stayed at Pelican Waters Holiday Park, which was fantastic. The park offers accommodations equipped with free WiFi, a seating area, a flat-screen TV, and a kitchen. Plus, there’s the convenience of free private parking available on site.

Pelican Waters Lodge, a fully self-contained three-bedroom house that offers serene rural views. The lodge includes a fully equipped kitchen complete with a dishwasher, comfortably accommodating up to six guests.

Fishing Setup

Okay, guys, our fishing setup included a 6-way spread. We used 2 skirts positioned about 70 meters out, and then we had three X-Raps closer in—one around 12 meters from the boat, another about 25 meters out, and the last set to 50 meters. There was a standout lure among them, a little white and orange X-wrap that caught most of our fish.

Action-Packed Casting

What we did was simply exhilarating—we hopped from one school of tuna to another with our spread out, while two of us cast stick baits directly into the schools from the front of the boat.

Delicious Wrap-Up Tuna On the BBQ

filled with great memories of a successful fishing adventure.

Here’s some footage of us catching tuna—everyone had an incredible time. We caught over 25 tuna on the first day and 10 on the second. We released all the tuna except for a few that we took home to eat. When we got back to the boat ramp, a kind fellow fetched us some wasabi sauce and soy sauce so we could enjoy the tuna straight off the BBQ.
